Blog journal 2- Technology Implementations

Most of my experience in Microsoft Word comes from writing essays. As a student, this is the main way I have had to use Microsoft Word. Teacher wise, Microsoft Word has been really helpful to me as a student. The most useful I have seen Microsoft Word used is for making templates for notes. When teachers make handouts for notes with blank spaces to write in it can be a really useful tool when it comes to note taking. Teachers have also used MS Word to send out announcements or make helpful handouts and reminders.

One of the biggest issues in my high school was in fact plagiarism. One time we were peer grading essays and a student's whole essay was taken from Wikipedia with the highlight bar even surrounding it. As a student, this put me in an extremely awkward position between my peer and my instructor. In my own experience and moral however, I have been taught about citing sources in MLA format since the seventh grade. I am always careful to cite websites, books, photos, and more correctly as to not be accused of plagiarism. As a teacher I would do what my middle school teachers did, which was set aside a whole week in the semester dedicated to learning about how to properly cite sources and more importantly the repercussions for not doing so.

The main three technology implementations that stick out to me would have to be copyright, academic honesty, and cyberbullying. My solution to copyright within the classroom would be teaching and informing students about properly citing sources and some scare tactics as to what can happen to a student if they are not followed. And on my part, it would be genuinely reading students work to make sure the language is fitting. When it comes to academic honesty, I would have student sign an anti-plagiarism agreement form at the beginning of the year. Then, when it comes to cyberbullying this is when I would involve parents. Starting at the open house, I would bring awareness to the situation and issue to parents and suggest they monitor children on social media. If I became aware of it occurring in my class, I would involve administration and parents. Overall, technology comes with a lot of benefits but also many risks. However, with the proper supervision, technology can be more helpful than harmful.

  1. Like your idea of involving the parents and the open house. It does take a community's to prevent the cyberbullying.
