Blog Journal 3- ELA
Looking at the ELA standards for grades 9-10 I think the ones I would feel most comfortable utilizing are some websites such as wordhippo and wordsmyth. Websites such as these are very simple to use but would also be extremely helpful for me a well as students because I want to teach english. On top of this, I have used some design websites such as Pixlr and digital media standards such as this one can be useful for creating visuals such as handouts or even newsletters. The standards I would most likely struggle with most would be the quantitative ones such as excel or tuva. I also do not see myself using these as often because I will be teaching english but becoming familiar with them will be helpful.
One of the resources in CPALMS tools I think I would use most is the Lesson Study Support System. This tool allows for a lot of collaboration and team work between teachers. With our criteria these days heavily relying on standardized testing, a program such as this one could be so useful for teachers to share ideas on how to teach standards that need to be met, while also making sure students are learning for more than just a test score. Basically, this program sets up teams of teachers and provides a platform to share and or collaborate on lesson studies. This tool is so helpful and I think allows teachers to be open to new ideas or to share their own to make educators more cohesive and collaborative.
Working with the newsletter design assignment was a really nice creative outlet. One thing I learned from the assignment that I can use in my future career was overall design and layout and how to choose the one that best fits the students you are trying to reach. I really liked utilizing the columns because it made the newsletter more organized and easier to read. One thing I struggled with was implementing the page break to add the cut off portion of the return slip. But it was a useful trick that I just need to work on and learn to do. Next time, I will also include boarder so it looks more put together overall. Overall, this assignment made me really excited about being a teacher because you forget about the fun things such as creating newsletters and curriculum such as the book list I included in my newsletter.

Yes, you may be not familiar with the specific technology, but did you read the ELA standard statement associated with it? The standards determine the competencies, and the technology listed is simply just an example.
