Blog Journal 6- Teacher websites
For this assessment I used my old high school's webpage. Their webpage was always very easy to maneuver and the layout was overall clear. On the homepage, they include a "faculty and staff" tab in which instructors, the subject they teach, and their email and website are listed in columns. One thing about Buchholz, is that teachers were not required to maintain a website, so many of the website columns are empty. However, the teachers who do keep up webpages often include important and useful information publicly for parents and students on these pages. One thing about teacher websites is they allow for backup in case paper handouts are lost. It also gives parents access to info such as the syllabus and important curriculum, supplies, and teacher contact information.

After visiting the technology sandbox, I really realized how much you can implement technology into the classroom in small but very effective ways. Looking at simpler things, I will most definitely have a website set up for my class. One thing about the Buchholz websites is that they are very minimal. I hope to create one that is a little bit more interactive, colorful, and easy to use. Teachers often create a website but then do not use it to its full potential. beyond this however, i plan to use technology in a way that can really enhance hands on learning. For example, a 3D printer would be great to create things such as planets in which students will then remember the way certain planets look much more than seeing a photo on the board.
The technology sandbox was overall and amazing experience. The most practical and definitely my favorite thing we got to use was one of the smart boards. The 3D objects were incredible. We pulled up a human heart and were able to look inside at the inter-workings and turn it any which way. This could be an amazing tool in the classroom because just as I said, it provides so much more to the student then looking at a standard photo of a heart. Another thing that was a really cool experience was the virtual reality. One thing that could be very practical about virtual reality is it can save on field trips. Although it is a semi heavy investment for the school, it can allow kids who may be unable to afford field trips to experience certain things in nearly the same way. These were my two favorite things we explored, however the technology sandbox was very insightful and inspiring in showing all the new and innovative ways technology can be used in the classroom.
